Project Overview

Located minutes from LAX, The Collective is a landmark workplace campus that combines contemporary architectural expression with precision-engineered metal envelope systems. Designed for both performance and aesthetics, the project showcases CSI's ability to transform ambitious design concepts into durable, constructible realities.

At the core of Silicon Beach, The Collective represents a next-generation workplace campus. This landmark development combines precision architectural detailing with elevated envelope performance, defined by craftsman detailing and modern fabrication excellence. CSI collaborated closely with the design and construction teams over a two-year period to refine panel geometry, interface details, and envelope integration — ensuring the system supported the architect’s vision with disciplined technical execution.

With 60 metric tons of marine-grade aluminum fabricated into a fully coordinated Reveal Roof & Wall Panel System, CSI delivered long-line continuity, crisp shadow reveals, and a seamless roof-to-wall transition language tailored to the project’s elevated design intent. Installation by union sheet-metal professionals at VNSM ensured a flawless field result befitting a premier tech campus in Los Angeles.

Design & Delivery

CSI spent more than two years partnering with the design team to engineer, refine, and integrate the architectural metal systems into the building envelope. Through collaborative design-assist services, technical detailing, and fabrication planning, CSI helped ensure the architect's vision could be executed with precision and consistency.

Working in partnership with Shimoda Design Group and Turner Construction, CSI coordinated engineering, fabrication, and installation detailing to meet strict geometric tolerances and maintain continuous reveal lines across varied building faces.

Installation was performed by VNSM Sheet Metal — a union sheet-metal firm — whose craftsmanship and field execution contributed significantly to the project’s success.

Market Impact

Initially delivered as a premium tech campus and occupied by Yahoo!, The Collective has continued to attract top-tier creative and media tenants, including Spin Master, which occupies more than 132,000 sq. ft. across three buildings.

Today, The Collective remains a benchmark for modern workplace architecture in Playa Vista, demonstrating how thoughtful design, innovative engineering, and precision fabrication can create enduring commercial environments.
